CE marking can be a challenge for timber windows and doors. So Sealco has produced a quick CE marking guide with practical advice on how to cost effectively meet the new legal requirements. Sealco can also provide you with a simple to use template for your factory production control document required for CE marking.

So what is a CE mark?

A CE mark is a manufacturer’s declaration that a product complies with the essential requirements of relevant European legislation. From 1 July 2013 for most external windows and door sets it is a legal requirement for the organisation bringing the product to market to issue a CE Mark.

How to CE mark windows and doors

There are four main steps to applying a CE mark to your windows and doors:

1. Initial Type Testing (ITT) – to demonstrate through testing that the window or door achieves the performance characteristics referred to in the Declaration of Performance (DoP).

2. Factory Production Control system (FPC) – The FPC documents the procedures and process for controlling both the source of components and manufacture of the products in accordance with EN14351 standards. In other words your quality control document.

3. Declaration of Performance (DoP) – The DoP states how the product will perform. It lists the essential characteristics of the product, for most windows and doors the performance has to be declared for thermal transmittance, the load bearing capability of safety devices (where fitted) and dangerous substances (COSSH).

4. CE mark labelling – A CE mark has to be supplied to the end user either as a label on the product, on the packaging or in the document pack. Every product requires its own CE mark.
